At the beginning of August, 1982, the late, great George Best, former Manchester United and Northern Ireland star and a former European Footballer of the Year, came north to help Arbroath Vics celebrate their centenary.
He took his place in a Vics' Select which defeated Arbroath A by four goals to three, scoring twice from the penalty spot.

Our picture shows the Vics' team which comprised, from left, back - Ian Harrison, Sy Gall, John Coull, Eric Martin, Russell Butchart, Andy Sommerville, Tommy Cargill and Brian Cargill: front - Garry Mitchell, Scott Arbuthnott, Stewart Hunter, Derek McIntosh, George Best, Brian Chapman, Jimmy Hunter and David Johnstone.
