Tartan Week conference to help businesses

TARTAN Week will give businesses the opportunity to learn how to make the most of tourism at a special conference next month.

The ‘Making the most of the visitor economy’ business conference will take place in the Carnoustie Golf Hotel on Thursday, April 4, 2013.

The event has been organised by Angus Council in partnership with Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce, Dundee City Council and VisitScotland.

Angus Council’s tourism spokesperson Councillor Mairi Evans is keen to highlight the usefulness of this conference.

She said: “Tourism is a key industry in Dundee and Angus. The next three years will bring many exciting opportunities to the area with the opening of V&A Dundee, Commonwealth Games in 2014, the Ryder Cup in neighbouring Gleneagles in 2015, a new five star hotel and golf resort in Angus and the Waterfront redevelopment in Dundee.

“This conference gives businesses the opportunity to learn about how this industry will grow locally over the next few years, and how they can get involved with this, no matter what type of business they have, and how they can help shape the future of this sector in Dundee and Angus.

“We have an impressive programme set for the day with respected industry speakers such as Malcolm Roughead, chief executive of VisitScotland, and Stephen Leckie, chair of the Scottish Tourism Alliance.

“We are also pleased to announce that John Swinney MSP will be presenting the keynote address. It’s going to be a very interesting day.”

In addition to the speakers, there will be workshops in the afternoon and discussions on topics such as collaborative working and knowing your customers.

Tickets for the event, priced at £20 + VAT for Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce members and £25 + VAT for non-members, and are available from.dundeeandangusahamber.co.uk
