Lifeboat’s SOS signal to raise cash

THE ARBROATH Lifeboat crew have issued their own shout of help ahead of the RNLI’s SOS fund-raising day tomorrow (Saturday).

Events to raise money for the organisation begin at the lifeboat station in the town at 9 a.m. and carry on through to 5 p.m.

During the course of the day the lifeboat crew will be undertaking a sponsored row-athon relay to see what ‘distance’ they can cover on a rowing machine over an eight hour period.

There are also two chances to win the fantastic prize of a trip for two on the all weather lifeboat, RNLB Inchcape.

To win, members of the public can compete in a sprint rowing challenge on a rowing machine.

The winner will be the person who covers the furthest ‘distance’ over a two minute period.

For those not feeling quite so energetic, the same opportunity is available as first prize in a raffle being held on the day.

Refreshments will be on sale, provided by the Arbroath Ladies Lifeboat Guild and the crew.

The fund-raising day comes off the back of new statistics which showed the Arbroath crew was the sixth busiest in Scotland.

In 2012 the lifeboat was launched a total of 41 times resulting in 23 people being rescued.

Nationally there were 1,008 shouts and 1,055 lives were saved.
