Arbroath busiest town in “satisfactory” survey report

ARBROATH is one of the most visited towns in the county according to the latest survey on Angus’ town centres.

The town centre health check was carried out by the Angus Citizens’ Panel as recommended by the Scottish Government.

It helps to analyse what makes a successful town centre and takes into account the opinions of those who use them.

The survey showed that Arbroath and Forfar are the most visited towns in Angus, and that most of those polled visited their respective town centre at least once a week.

This was aided by the fact that most respondents had easy access to their town centres.

The environmental quality of Angus’ town centres was graded by the majority of respondents as satisfactory or above.

This took into account the state of open spaces in the town centre, street furniture, public toilets, graffiti, fly posting and the general building conditions.

Also considered satisfactory or above by the majority was the overall cleanliness and appearance of the various town centres, which rates shop frontages and littering levels.

The report from the Angus Citizens’ Panel also identifies the key strength of Angus’ town centres, which according to residents, lies in the convenient location of shops.

This is balanced by the fact that the key weakness identified by the survey is a poor range of shops in the town centres.

The information gathered will be used to shape the Angus Local Development Plan and to generally monitor town centres in Angus.

The Angus Citizens’ Panel is currently working on analysing the results of the last survey carried out which asked people in Angus to rate their dealings with Angus Council and their quality of life.

The panel is always looking for new members, anyone wishing to take part can download an application form from the Angus Citizens’ Panel section of www.angus.gov.uk and return it via email to greenr@angus.gov.uk.

Alternatively applications can be obtained from local libraries or ACCESS offices.
